Seliat Adebutu Library (SAL)

Welcome to SAL, Crescent University Abeokuta

The University is known as Seliat Adebutu Library (SAL). The Library building was donated by Sir (Dr.) Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu in 2010 to the University in memory of his late mother, Alhaja Seliat Adebutu. The Library is a storey building and one of the most unique structures in the University. 
The primary function of the University Library is to enhance Teaching, Learning, and Research activities of the University community through the provision of books and journals in both prints and non–prints formats.


Seliat Adebutu Library has 300 study seating capacity and capacity for over 20,000 volumes of books and journals.

Automation and E-Library Services

The library started its automation programme with 25 workstations within the library in 2012/13 session with an Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS) E-Granthalaya (e-G3) that enables users to access the library resources. At present, SAL has 130 computer workstations with the library Online Open Access Catalogue (OPAC) fully functional making it possible to access bibliographical details of library holdings/resources online. The library currently has access to the following electronic databases online:

College and Departmental Libraries

Apart from the main library, there are Colleges and Departmental Libraries. Notable among these are:


Bola Ajibola College of Law (BACOLAW) library with a seating capacity for about 50 users, about 7,000 volumes of books with 50 computer workstations at the law e-library.


College of Health Sciences (COHES) library has a seating capacity of about 40 users and about 434 volumes of books and e-Library with (no) computer work stations There are also libraries in the various departments of the University.


The library offers the following services:

  • Serials: The Serials room is where journals and other ephemeral collection are kept and open for lecturers, final year students and those undergraduates referred to specific journals by their lecturers. Researchers from other institutions may also use serial resources on request.
  • Bibliographic Services: Bibliographic Services are also offered to interested users. The library also provides Current Awareness Services (CAS) and Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI)
  • Borrowing Services: Each student is entitled to borrow 2 books for 2 weeks while lecturers are entitled to three books for four weeks only. Though these can be renewed for a second time only.
  • Reserve Book Service: Books in high demand or those with few copies are shelved in this section of the library. Also, there are books in reserve that can be consulted within this section of the Library. Before such books are released, students are expected to submit their identity cards to the staff on duty at the desk.
  • The teaching of “Use of Library”: The University Library has the responsibility of teaching the students on the “Use of Library” and also gives orientation to fresh students of the University.
  • The Library has reception/ relaxation area for the users who might want to have a short break during the usage of the Library. This area is enclosed with the provision of a television set, journals and magazines.
  • Reprographic services: The Library has photocopying and printing services at a cheaper rate for staff and students.

Students of the University register with the Library at the beginning of every session while members of staff register only once. Outsiders may be allowed to use the Library upon a letter of introduction by their institutions and the approval of the University Librarian.

The library is open to readers as follows:

  • Monday to Friday: 8.00a.m – 6.00p.m
  • Saturday 9.00a.m – 4.00p.m
